April Update from Orchard Park
March certainly kept us on our toes with some unpredictable weather—leaving us (and the robins!) wondering what season we were in. Our schoolyard is still snow covered which means it will be quite wet and muddy in the near future, so families of younger students may want to send along a change of socks and pants, or keep a spare set in backpacks. There is a very large puddle outside—rubber boots are highly recommended if you have them! This helps keep our students comfortable and reduces phone calls home from the office.
As spring temperatures arrive and the snow melts, we’re excited to see more students walking or wheeling to school. If you are driving, please remember that our parking lot is very busy during arrival and dismissal. The lot closes at 3:00 p.m. To ensure student safety. Consider the “Drive to 5” option—parking at Carmichael Park and walking the rest of the way is a great way to get some
fresh air and movement before and after school.
April also brings many exciting learning opportunities at Orchard Park. We are pleased to be hosting Jamie McMillan, who will be engaging our intermediate students, along with Grade 8 students from across Orillia, in learning more about pathways into the Skilled Trades. This is a wonderful opportunity to expand students’ understanding of future career options and hands‑on learning pathways.
At home, we encourage families to continue talking about school and learning together. Here are a few conversation starters you might try at the dinner table:
• What was the best part of your day today?
• Did you learn something new or interesting?
• What made you laugh today?
• Is there something at school you’re looking forward to?
